General Notes
Do
you use a computer regularly? Do you use programs such as a
word processor? Yes? Then, you can easily learn to build a web
site. It's really very simple and easy to do. Prove it to
yourself by downloading Web Design Wisdom's e-course, "How to
Build a Magnetic Web Site". Within an hour or so, you'll be
convinced that you CAN do it.
Do I Have to Learn HTML?
Yes and No. You'll find many web designers who'll tell you
that the "ONLY" way to learn to build web pages is to learn
HTML. Besides not being true, this probably scares away many
non-technical people.
Get started with web authoring software and learn HTML
"naturally" as you develop skill. It will be much easier for
you to understand later. The WYSIWYG editors allow you to
build your pages graphically. That is, "what you see is
(almost) what you get". Sure, these editors create unnecessary
HTML and do some things that you don't expect. But, it's
easier to learn enough HTML to "clean up" the code than it is
to start out "coding" with HTML exclusively. (My opinion ...
many will adamantly disagree ... while others will agree
wholeheartedly.)
Do I Have to Buy Web Authoring Software?
Only if you want to. You can start with the free stuff (you
may decide that you don't need anything else - I know of one
professional web designer who uses free FrontPage Express
exclusively).
